The City of San Luis Obispo is seeking community input that will inform the City Council study session on the 2026 Climate Action Plan Progress Report and the upcoming 2027 Climate Action Plan update.

Community members interested in climate action have several upcoming opportunities to learn about the City’s progress toward its climate action goals and share input on the future of local climate action. The City will host two upcoming information sessions in March as well as a study session at a City Council meeting in April.

The City adopted the first iteration of its Climate Action Plan in 2020, and in 2022 the City adopted the 2023-27 Climate Action Plan Work Program. The Climate Action Plan is centered around reducing community greenhouse gas emissions and focuses on using resources more effectively, improving community equity and well-being, and developing a thriving economy in a rapidly changing 21st century. It’s been four years since the adoption of the 2023-27 Climate Action Plan Work Program, and several challenges and opportunities have emerged since then. The 2026 Progress Report will present these findings to City Council in preparation for a full Climate Action Plan update in 2027.

Climate Action Progress Information Sessions
The following information sessions in March will highlight how community members, local organizations, and the City are making progress towards local climate action goals. Staff members will cover challenges and opportunities that have emerged since the 2023-27 Climate Action Plan Work Program was adopted. Attendees are encouraged to participate, and be ready to learn, ask questions, and share input about the future of local climate action in San Luis Obispo. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Feedback from the March 10 and 11 meetings will help shape the City’s 2026 Climate Action Plan Progress Report, which will be presented to the City Council on April 7, 2026.
