San Luis Obispo Police Department is investigating a reported hate crime that occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the evening hours between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm on the 300 block of Hathway.
The victim, a 21-year-old male, was at a fraternity house located in the 200 block of California that also has a back entrance on Hathway Street. While standing at the Hathway entrance, a lifted white truck drove onto Hathway, stopped near the house and the occupants of the truck yelled anti-Semitic slurs at him.
A verbal argument ensued and several males got out of the truck and one of the males ran to the house, entered the yard and struck the victim on the side of his head with his hand. The males then got back into the truck and drove away.
