A surf rescue response at Shamel Park in Cambria was canceled after crews found no one in the water following reports of an overturned kayak, according to the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department.
Units responded to the beach park for an overturned kayak and began searching the area for any possible victims, the department said.
Cambria Fire launched Boat 57 to assist, and California Highway Patrol helicopter H70 was en route.
The incident commander later canceled the response after confirming there was no victim in the water.
Crews are retrieving the abandoned kayak from the surf, officials said.
