San Luis Obispo Transient Arrested for Robbery of Elderly Victim

On June 29, 2026, at approximately 6:18 p.m., officers from the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded to the 400 block of Prado Road for the report of a robbery involving an elderly victim. 

The investigation determined that the suspect, identified as Anthony Smith, approached the elderly victim from behind, placed his hands on the victim’s shoulders, and instructed him to not to turn around. Smith then removed the victim’s mobile phone from his pocket, searched him for additional property then fled the area. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries during the incident. 

Responding officers quickly located Smith near the intersection of Higuera Street and Granada Drive. During the investigation, officers recovered the victim’s stolen mobile phone.  

Smith is currently on California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) parole for burglary. He was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on the following charges:  

PC 211 – Felony robbery  

PC 368(b)(1) – Felony elder abuse 

PC 3056 – Felony parole violation
