On Saturday, May 23, 2026, at approximately 7:56 pm, officers from the San Luis Obispo Police Department were dispatched to 1300 Madonna for a report of a male refusing to leave the business.
Officers arrived at the location and found a male, later identified as 55 year old Steven Wilson, who began to yell at the officers to not come near him. Wilson stated several times to officers that he had a firearm and wanted to die/suicide by cop.
After approximately 20 minutes of negotiations, Wilson continued to threaten officers and refuse to comply with their orders. Wilson then reached into a pack he was wearing at his waist, and officers used less lethal munitions made of dense foam, striking Wilson in the leg, and took him into custody without further incident.
Officers searched Wilson and did not locate a firearm. Wilson was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was later booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for felony resisting and executive officers and local misdemeanor warrants.
No officers were injured during the incident.
