A person who was stranded 20 feet off a trail near Pirates Cove was brought to safety on Wednesday afternoon in a coordinated cliff rescue operation involving local firefighters and a CHP helicopter.

The call for a rescue was reported Wednesday afternoon following the discovery of a person who had become stuck off the Cave Landing Trail.

Firefighters and specialized Urban Search and Rescue teams from CAL FIRE / San Luis Obispo County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. First responders located the individual approximately 20 feet from the established trail in a precarious position, prompting a technical rescue effort.

As ground crews worked to access the person, a California Highway Patrol coastal division helicopter, H-70, was called to assist with the operation.

Shortly after the helicopter’s arrival, fire officials confirmed that the rescue was successful. A post from the fire department at 2:50 p.m. stated, “subject has been rescued safely.”

The circumstances leading to the person being off the trail and whether they sustained any injuries were not immediately released.
