SLO Thrift is officially opening in San Luis Obispo, with a soft opening scheduled for January 16, 2026.
The store is located at 445 Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo and operates in a 5,000-square-foot space, according to the store’s Instagram account.
The soft opening marks the launch of the thrift store ahead of its full opening. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
During the soft opening, visitors can explore the store’s collection and enjoy complimentary cookies.

The 5,000-square-foot space was previously occupied by the Wilshire Hope Chest, which closed several months ago after filing for bankruptcy, according to KSBY.
The site has since been taken over by SLO Thrift following the completion of renovations ahead of its launch.
SLO Thrift is a small business offering secondhand clothing, home goods, books, and other donated items, all sourced from community donations.

On its website, the store states that it centers its identity on reuse and affordability, aiming to make items accessible for every budget.
In addition to the thrift store, SLO Thrift has introduced the SLO Thrift Foundation as its nonprofit arm. The foundation was created to support local families and communities across San Luis Obispo, with store revenue and donations contributing to its efforts.

The store accepts donations of used goods at its San Luis Obispo location from Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The SLO Thrift Foundation offers additional ways to support its mission, including financial contributions, volunteering, or sharing information about the store and its programs.
Volunteer opportunities include sorting, organizing, and assisting with other operational needs.
SLO Thrift’s soft opening marks the addition of a new secondhand retail option in San Luis Obispo. As the store moves forward, its focus will remain on giving back and supporting the local community through the SLO Thrift Foundation.
