Hola SLO, a Mexican-inspired art and gift shop, has opened at 845 Higuera St in Downtown San Luis Obispo.

The store held its grand opening over the weekend. The celebration included earning a raffle ticket to win a piñata and free parking in the structure, Hola SLO said in an Instagram post.

The new shop offers T-shirts, blouses, candles, jewelry, bilingual books, cookbooks, Mexican art, embroidered denim jackets, kitchen items such as mugs, and a curated collection of bilingual, bicultural cards and stickers.

Run by two mothers, Sara McGrath and Sandra O, Hola SLO also conducts workshops and will be hosting one on Christmas ornaments on December 6, 2025, according to an Instagram post.

Hola SLO is also offering free garage parking for the holidays. This includes December 24-26, 2025, for Christmas, and December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026, for New Year’s.

The store has been updating its social media with pictures and videos of the store.

Describing the journey so far, the owners shared that they have been working on the store “late at night” and while juggling other jobs, school drop-offs, after-school activities, and other daily responsibilities.

In early November 2025, they shared that they had signed a storefront lease and were expecting to open the shop by the holidays.

Hola SLO is situated next to Corazon Cafe, a Mexican cafe that McGrath also runs.

The store participates in the City of San Luis Obispo’s popular Buy Local Bonus program, it added in the post.

San Luis Obispo’s Program to Support Small Businesses

Running through Christmas Eve, the program supports small businesses in the city and rewards shoppers for investing in local businesses.

Shoppers who spend $100 at small, locally owned businesses within the city limits can qualify for a $25 gift card to another small establishment.

They can choose from a selection of available gift cards from other local businesses, including restaurants, retailers, and service providers in San Luis Obispo.

Shoppers can bring a copy of their receipts to the San Luis Obispo Visitor Center in downtown San Luis Obispo.

Individuals can qualify for the program up to three times through Christmas Eve or until the program sells out.
