Firefighters stopped a small vegetation fire early Sunday in the Madonna area after a rapid, coordinated response by CAL FIRE/San Luis Obispo County Fire and San Luis Obispo City Fire.
Crews were dispatched around 3:15 a.m. to the mutual threat zone near Fernandez Road and the South Marsh Street southbound on-ramp, where the “Madonna Fire” was reported burning in a 50-by-50-foot patch of vegetation with a slow rate of spread, according to public safety officials.
Incident Command reported forward progress was stopped at about 4:00 a.m. Initial estimates put the burn area at approximately one acre. The National Interagency Fire Center later listed the fire at 0.25 acres and 100% contained.
Fire officials noted crews would remain on scene for extensive mop-up operations, and one hand crew was requested to assist.
Authorities credited the quick, coordinated response with preventing further spread in a high-risk wildland-urban interface area.
The cause was not immediately available. No injuries were reported.
