Firefighters responded in the early hours of Friday, December 26, 2025, to a commercial structure fire reported around 5:08 a.m. on Vaquero Road in Templeton.

The fire involved a barn where stored hay caught fire. Firefighters remain on scene, actively working to contain the flames and prevent further damage.

Six pigs and a horse inside the barn did not survive the fire, KEYT reported.

Officials urged the public to stay clear of the area to allow emergency crews to work safely. They have not yet provided details about injuries or the extent of the damage.

Previous Fire Incident in SLO County

Earlier this week, another commercial fire was reported in San Luis Obispo County. The fire broke out in the early hours of December 23, 2025, north of Santa Maria.

Fire crews were dispatched around 3:30 a.m. to Bull Canyon Road near the Bob Woods Place intersection, north of Santa Maria, according to Edhat.

Multiple agencies responded, including CAL FIRE, San Luis Obispo County Fire, Santa Maria City Fire, and Santa Barbara County Fire. Authorities have not yet determined or shared the cause of the fire.

Fire Prevention and Preparedness

In light of these incidents, San Luis Obispo County officials emphasize the importance of fire prevention and preparedness. Residents are encouraged to install smoke alarms on every level of their homes and check the batteries regularly.

Officials also advise residents to inspect fire extinguishers regularly, learn how to use them properly, and create a defensible space around buildings.

Residents are encouraged to conduct fire drills at least twice a year, especially in households with children or elderly family members.

Officials also advise avoiding the use of kerosene lanterns or stoves indoors, ensuring all heating units are inspected and cleaned annually, never leaving clothes dryers running unattended, and keeping space heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials.
