New Weekday Express Service Improves Regional Connectivity and Offers an Affordable Commuting Option Between Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo

SLO Transit is pleased to partner with Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT) to offer a new weekday express commuter bus route connecting Santa Maria to San Luis Obispo. SMRT’s Route 210, provides direct service between the Crossroads Shopping Center in Santa Maria and the Downtown SLO Transit Center on Osos Street, with convenient connections to SLO Transit and SLO RTA services.

The new route is the result of a collaborative partnership between SMRT, the City of San Luis Obispo, and the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG).

“Regional partnerships like this allow us to better serve commuters traveling across city and county boundaries,” said Alex Fuchs, Mobility Services Business Manager for the City of SLO. “Route 210 strengthens connections between Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo while supporting access to downtown jobs, education, and services.”

To encourage riders to try the new service, SMRT’s Route 210 is currently free during a limited pilot period. After the free trial, regular fares will be $2 per trip, $3 for an unlimited all-day pass, or $31 for a 31-day unlimited monthly pass. Existing SLO RTA 31-Day Regional Passes will be honored on Route 210. For some commuters, the service has the potential to save more than $500 per month compared to driving and parking costs.

“The collaboration with our partners has been instrumental in making this new commuter service a reality,” SMRT’s Transit Services Manager Gamaliel Anguiano said. “We believe this new route will be a valuable addition to available transportation options for people who live in Santa Maria and commute to SLO on a daily basis, helping them save on costs and make better use of their precious travel time.”

Route schedules, stop locations, and additional service details are available at www.rideSMRT.org.

SLO Transit remains committed to supporting regional transit connections that improve accessibility, reliability, and travel choices for residents and commuters throughout the Central Coast. For more information about SLO Transit services, visit www.slotransit.org.
