The City of San Luis Obispo expects to begin grinding and paving work on Tank Farm Road, from Orcutt Road to Broad Street, as part of the 2025 Transportation, Paving, and Mobility Improvements project. This initiative will maintain and repair key streets, extend the life of existing pavement, and advance high-priority accessibility and safety improvements as part of SLO in Motion, the City’s plan to enhance infrastructure throughout our community.

Crews plan to begin work from Wavertree Street to Righetti Ranch Road, as they work their way toward Broad Street, paving one side of the road at a time. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the work, with traffic flow directed around active construction zones.

Paving Upgrades:

  • Tank Farm Road, from Santa Fe Road to Orcutt Road
  • Sacramento Drive, from Industrial Way to Via Esteban (nearly complete)

Completed Striping Renewal:

  • Broad Street (Orcutt Road to Tank Farm Road)
  • Madonna Road (Cabrillo Highway on-ramp to Higuera Street)
  • Prado Road (S. Higuera Street to Hopkins Lane)
  • The intersection of Mill Street and Santa Rosa Street

Construction Timeline and What to Expect

Work began in late August 2025, and is now anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2026. Curb ramp upgrades have been completed on Sacramento Drive and we are wrapping up paving making the area safer and more accessible. It is expected that grinding and paving work will take place during standard construction from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the possibility of nightwork to minimize traffic impacts during the day.

Community members can expect:

  • Temporary lane and road closures
  • Lane shifting
  • Detours and traffic noise
  • Construction noise
  • Use of heavy equipment

Impacted residents and businesses will receive advance notice before work begins on their street. We appreciate the community’s patience as we work on these City improvements.

SLO in Motion: Investing in a Connected & Safer Community

These improvements will create safer, more connected streets for all users, whether driving, biking or walking, and promoting accessibility and the long-term vitality of San Luis Obispo neighborhoods.
