On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 4:30 pm, San Luis Obispo Police and Fire Department personnel received 911 calls regarding a vehicle versus bicyclist at DeVaul Park near Spooner Drive and Welsh Court.

The injured bicyclist was a 12-year-old child on an electric bike. The child was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The child sustained major injuries and was treated at a local hospital before being flown out of the area due to the significant nature of their injuries.

Impairment appears not to be a factor in the collision.  The SLOPD Severe Collision Investigative Detail (SCID) responded to take over the investigation.
