Adventist Health Sierra Vista in San Luis Obispo announced a multi-million capital expansion to upgrade facilities.
Adventist Health Central Coast announced a $220 million capital expansion at Adventist Health Sierra Vista in a social media post on January 18, 2026. This marks one of the biggest healthcare investments ever made in San Luis Obispo County, according to the health center.
Adventist Health Sierra Vista will utilize the investment to modernize and expand its facilities to support advanced, high-quality care, according to the Facebook post.
The project is currently in the planning stages, with groundbreaking expected in 2028.
While the hospital did not add details of the planned upgrades and expansions, a news report by Paso Robles Daily News stated that the investment will be used to build a new emergency department and trauma center, labor and delivery and postpartum units, operating and procedure rooms, an additional intensive care unit, and revitalized inpatient rooms.
The expansion will increase capacity, add new technology, and grow services, reducing the need for patients to seek advanced care outside the region, according to Paso Robles Daily News.
The announcement was made during the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on January 17, 2026, where Adventist Health was the presenting sponsor, the news report added.
The investment reflects Adventist Health’s long-term commitment to the Central Coast, Paso Robles Daily News cited Adventist Health Central Coast Network President Ryan Ashlock as saying.
Located at 1010 Murray Avenue in San Luis Obispo, Adventist Health Sierra Vista is a 162-bed general acute care hospital, according to the state health care access and information.
The hospital first opened in December 1959 as Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center as a 53-bed facility, according to the Adventist Health website. The hospital was created after 21 local physicians united to create a hospital for the community.
The hospital has the county’s only neonatal intensive care unit, trauma center, and a dedicated pediatric unit, according to Adventist Health’s website. In affiliation with the University of California San Francisco Health, Adventist Health Sierra Vista offers neurosurgery services, supported by almost 800 employees.
