Santa Barbara Associates (SBA) re-elected Sue Larsen as President of the Board of Directors at the nonprofit organization’s 40th Annual Meeting.

SBA is one of the oldest of the women’s groups in Santa Barbara. The SBA holds monthly luncheons on a variety of topics that are of interest to its growing membership.

Larsen is co-owner of Gulley & Larsen Insurance Services. She is also past president of the Santa Barbara Association of Health Underwriters and served as vice president of membership for the California Association of Health Underwriters and served as vice chair of the Workforce Investment Board, County of Santa Barbara.

 Other elected Board members are vice president Lori Sullivan, secretary Marci Friedlander, and treasurer Carla Long, Beverly Bakerbrown, Barbara Bartolome, Chris Bashforth, Cheri Jasinski, Ginny Milhoan, Denise Lockhart, and Nikki Ayers, immediate past president. Newly elected board members are Tanis Hammond and Cecilia B Ordonez DDS. Sharon Van Gundy also serves as a historian and consultant to the Board of Directors.

In addition, Gretchen Hewlett was honored as the “Woman of Distinction” for 2021. She is the Chief Development Officer for the Foundation for Santa Barbara City College. Hewlett was instrumental in creating the SBA’s Giving Forward Fund and Committee. She has been a long-time member and served on the SBA Board of Directors for many years. Her career and work ethics inspire the SBA Vision of “Women in Leadership Positions – Making Connections, Sharing Expertise, Inspiring Confidence, Encouraging Growth.”

Santa Barbara Associates was founded in 1981 and been affiliated with the University Club of Santa Barbara, 1332 Santa Barbara Street, since 1983. Membership in the Associates is by invitation and includes approximately 200 members and ten honorary members. The networking group of women in top-level professional or entrepreneurial positions hosts regular educational meetings to help promote and enhance the association of business professional women. SBA meets at the University Club and currently via ZOOM at www.sbassociates.org.
