Where's the best place to view the Super Moon in Santa Barbara County?

A nice app for viewing/photographing the moon (and sun and Milky Way) is Photopills. It has an augmented reality view that uses your cell phone's camera and superimposes an animated graphic that shows you where the moon will be in the sky at your location at any time/date. Handy for planning photos or just plain viewing.

Speaking of light pollution: the City of SB is in the process of changing out street light lamps from present soft Amber color to harsh blastingly white color-----to "save taxpayers money." Yes. You can kiss stargazing good-bye if you reside anywhere near street lights.

The new LED lights are cheaper, so municipalities tend to put in brighter ones, which emit at the blue end of the spectrum and cause lots of potential health problems for people and wildlife, in addition to snuffing out the stars. There were moves afoot to mandate lower temperature LEDs that emit more toward the yellow end of the spectrum, but I don't know where they stand.

I talked to the City about their replacement program. They swear the lights are good for you and will save money. So nothing to see here, please move along.

Agree about the street lights and in addition they could use better shielding to reflect the light more downward, where it belongs.

Don’t have to worry about light pollution? We’re covered in it. Maybe you were being sarcastic..I would go up to the mountains to view it myself. I’m looking at it right now!

Almost anywhere in the course of the evening, since you don't have to worry about light pollution ;) It would be most impressive to watch it rise this evening and tomorrow evening right at sunset, from a spot with a nice eastern horizon such as Shoreline Park. Alternatively, watch it set at sunrise in the west from someplace with a good western vantage.
