I recommend Valencia Tree & Landscape (Rosendo Valencia) for quality work. I've used this company ever since it was founded in 1986 and as recently as last month. Never disappointed!

Montecito Tree Care. Ron Gosnell. (805) 969-9069-----Don't let the "Montecito" part put you off. MTC has been a family business for decades. The company charges *extremely reasonable* fees and the workmen are extraordinarily efficient. I had Montecito Tree Care trim my giant Eucalyptus citriodora and it wasn't an easy job, since the tree is at the far end of my back yard and up a hill. I was thoroughly impressed by the work done (and it takes a lot to impress me) and happily have found the best tree trimmers in town.
Here is a list of Better Business Bureau members that provide tree service.

If you're looking for someone who takes a little extra time to do the work right and is careful not to damage nearby structures, I highly recommend Nimble Tree Care. Jacob is very easy to communicate with, will work with you on ideas, and his prices are fair (his quote matched others). Jacob takes a little bit longer than the regular crews who come in with chain saws and rush the cleanup partly because he tends to do more hand cutting. Nimble Tree Care is often booked so this is a good time to schedule pruning for when the weather is cooler and trees aren't in fast growing mode.
I used and recommend Branch Out for the trimming of the two Oak trees on my lot. They were excellent. Came out immediately, provided an estimate for a total clean-up of my backyard that also included about 20 palm fronds, and two Oak trees and others. They did a great job.
I used Branch Out perhaps 4 years ago. Nice folks in shiny new trucks. My one gripe is they allowed cut limbs to fall on a fence and hedge ... the fence was cockeyed and the hedge had gaps in it. A different arborist once put a hole in my garage door. My advice is to inspect your property during the cleanup phase before the workers leave.
