Best book I've found is Santa Barbara Day Hikes by Ray Ford and you can also visit the Outdoor section of the Santa Barbara Independent for more hikes around the county. He is very knowledgeable of the area and provides great facts.

There are two in my library. The first is a tattered edition of Ray Ford's "Santa Barbara Day Hikes" (1992, Kimberly Press, blue cover). This was the first comprehensive local trails guide for many people including myself during a time when this kind of info was not yet available on the internet. Pretty sure it's out of print but a circa 2000 edition is still available on Amazon. Ray also wrote "Santa Barbara Mountain Bikes" in 1992 (yellow cover) which had similar info. Plus he released separate folded maps for those two books which are simpler to read than a topo (also blue and yellow). The second is Craig R. Carey's "Hiking & Backpacking Santa Barbara & Ventura" (2012, Wilderness Press). Craig covers much more of the southern Los Padres and includes GPS coordinates. Craig maintains a website with great info and photos here ...... http://www.craigrcarey.net/ .... I'd suggest both books. For online information, there is the venerable Santa Barbara Hikes website ..... https://www.santabarbarahikes.com/ ..... there are other online sites with local trail info but some (not all) are the kind that get people in trouble (i.e. they don't give a sense of how difficult some hikes like Seven Falls or Cathedral Peak can be for casual users).

Joining the Montecito Trail Foundation gets you a map of all the trails. Also, it supports their good work of keeping the trails in good condition and acquiring new ones. If there is a problem, like a tree across the trail, a call to MTF will get it taken care of. Right now they are working to restore trails destroyed by the fire and debris flow.

Santa Barbara Day Hikes is excellent for those that don't have cell phones.

Forgot to mention another good trail guide by a local. This one is by Diane Soini who runs santabarbarahikes.com ..... "Santa Barbara Hikes - Great Day Hikes in Santa Barbara". Her book is self-published and available either as a spiral bound book or as an eBook (go to the Google Play or Apple App stores and load a free PDF reader so you can read Diane's guide on your cell phone). Diane's guide has the kind of valuable tips you'd expect from talking with a local and is very affordable as an eBook. To get this book, just go to santabarbarahikes.com and look for the link or directly to http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/dianesoini.
