What are some favorite daily specials at local restaurants? Joes Café has some interesting ones, Cuca's has a burrito of the day, there must be others.
The Baby Back ribs at Fresco are a special one night a week - as good as they gets in Santa Barbara. Surprisingly few places have lean, tasty Baby Backs.
I think the chicken might've been a menu item long ago. I KNOW the lamb chops were. They took them off. As did Mesa Cafe, with their lamb shanks, and whatever the Encina Lodge on Bath with the finch aviary is called; they used to make lamb shanks. Definitely the first dish I'm making when our "winter" starts! Braised in a dark ale... mmm...
Fried chicken at Harry's. Pretty darn good; there are few restaurants in SB who make it, not counting greasy, 70-80% batter, KFC and grocery store types. Expensive, I go once or twice a year for that. Don't know what day of the week it is. Harry's is ... Harry's. I have a connection, as so many do. First restaurant I went to as a child. They had lamb dip sandwiches back then. Cab it - great drinks. Now expensive food, but I've had good short ribs and white fish piccata. Had friends who got their name on a booth. What can I say. :-)
