We cut our tree down while visiting my family in Northern California for Thanksgiving where we’ve been cutting our own trees for 40 years! This isn’t your flat tree lot either-it’s up and down hills searching for the perfect tree. Mandatory hot cocoa and picnic lunch. And drive back 275 miles with it on top of my car. We get lots of looks and smiles and still the best trees and even better prices than any place I’ve seen in town. Even better when it’s raining and your Dad drives his 1970 Pontiac GTO up there to get the tree with you. Best memories.

I used to be torn between "killing" a tree and using a nice fake one, until someone explained to me that the trees are grow as a "crop". This means that are cut, then new trees are planted, and this helps our entire ecosystem. The tree farms clean a huge amount of air, the trees producing more oxygen than they use.

Holloway's is great - it's been family run for a few generations. But it us kind of far to drive back with a tree on the roof. We used to go to Big Wave Dave's, but a few years ago switched to La Sumida Nursery. Price depends on the size and variety, but I'd guess between $30. and $100. Happy Holidays!

HOLIDAY tree? Actually it's a Winter Solstice tree, a pagan ritual. Christmas trees are what we all grew up with and will continue calling them that.

Oh yeah, give the customer a sharp axe to harvest a tree. Probably safer than a chain saw though.
