Find the darkest place you can with relatively uncluttered horizons. With the Thomas Fire, you'll want to get out of the smoke plume and bad air, so maybe Santa Maria somewhere. Refugio State Beach might work well if the smoke and ash behave, and you don't mind keeping your N95 mask on.
The radiant rises early, but views are still best after midnight. Recline with your feet to the northeast, and watch the whole sky. As the night progresses, rotate to put your feet more to the south, so they're pointed toward the radiant in Gemini, near the bright star Castor. Castor is the uppermost (most westerly) star of the two bright stars to the left (northeast) of the constellation Orion.
Thank you Mysterious Black & Red!
That sounds so ez I think I will go to my fave beach aka Refugio and try that too.
Now I have an excuse to go for an overnight stay.
Anyone up for a Minute game of Battleship meet there...
