Zombie Thriller Tops Streaming Charts

By JaneTV

HBO Max’s new zombie show “The Last of Us” tops the streaming charts this week followed by Oscar contenders, according to Reelgood.

“The Last of Us” was adapted from a popular video game and had a massive debut during its premiere week and is voted as the top rated televesion show ever made by IMDB.com.

It stars Pedro Pascal (Narcos, The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as an unlikely post-apocalyptic duo with a mission that might just save us all. It takes place in a shambled modern-day America after a worldwide pandemic that hits a little too close to home. Although instead of this being a deadly virus or bacteria causing the chaos, it’s a real-life fungus that is known to live inside its host for months or years, controlling its body and brain forcing it to spread, like zombies.

Coming in at number two is Netflix’s spinoff of the popular “That 70s Show” sitcom with the main character’s children going back to their grandparents house for “That 90s Show.”

Third up is the Oscar-contender “Everything Everywhere All at Once” streaming on Showtime. The film has been nominated ten times including Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress, Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Actress, and Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor. All four actors are recognized and honored by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this year.

What I’m Watching: “The Last of Us.” I’m a sucker for a good zombie show and this one blows everything else out of the water. It carefully balances the horrifying terror of their world and compassionate humanity with just enough hope to keep watching. The scientific elements of the Cordyceps fungi is worth a Google and should outright terrify you of future potential.
