There are free historical walking tours; one along the Waterfront and the other in the Funk Zone. Each offers optional wine tasting vouchers for $8 - the best deal in town.
DOWNTOWN—the happening place! This morning, Saturday, is the colorful Hawaiian Tournament at Santa Barbara Lawn Bowls Club located at 1216 De La Vina Street. The games start around 9:30. Come watch and see what the fun is all about with this ageless sport!
MONTECITO Get prepared if you think the tranquil entrance to Montecito is special. It won't be long until you'll be experiencing a Caltrans roundabout at San Ysidro Road.
Eastside, Quarantina underpass, especially, is a home for the houseless, complete with furniture on the sidewalks. Only those who live here and use that street would know that.
Rinconer, Milpas Underpants®, there fixed it? I was unsure if it was "Registered" & didn't want to get in trouble using ® instead of ™. Mainly because it's so descriptive of said area! & of course all credit is due to the aforementioned Roger Co., inc. what a great source of actual information...
JRA (technical bike term: just riding along) attempting to AVOID the dreaded Milpas Underpants™ , I was thinking to myself: how quaint I wonder what the postal address is?
West side - Back in the late 50's or early 60's a large wood cattle boat was built in a boat yard that had been on Micheltorena Street just west of the freeway and north side of the street. I believe signal lights were still in operation on 101 at Micheltorena Street during that time. Later learned this boat hauled cattle to and from one of the islands.
Edhat needs to bring back the neighborhood travels who explored each part of Barbara and had some great articles on here. This was probably back maybe 5-10 years ago, if someone remembers the name please chime in. Maybe Edhat can repost them.
Nope, not us. We do walk a lot however. Mostly on the east side between State and Milpas - lower Riviera. 5-10 miles every day.. (Usually) Been doing it for about 10+ years now. You probably have seen us.... I'm the older guy with white hair always holding hands with wifie - beautiful darkie lady.
YES! Urban Hikers was the name...not sure about the "ambulance chasers" but their articles were sure fun to read. Edhat needs to repost them. Was just looking at an article online and their last hike was 10 years ago in 2011. it would be a good TBT post
MP805 - I believe you’re referring to the Urban Hikers? I remember they caught some heat for being “ambulance chasers” (not my opinion, just recalling) and I remember seeing their photos on another local news site for a while but not lately.
SBWalkers - husband and wife who walked every street in Santa Barbara and shared their discoveries. Gathered quite a crowd, when they finally came to walk their "last street".

Jun 11, 2021 02:45 PMWestside is the best side. Friendly people, lots of families, limited homeless.
