On Tuesday, January 02, 2018, at approximately 4:04 a.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was involved in a multi area pursuit which started in the Newhall area at SR-126 east of Pacific for speeding.  Santa Barbara area was notified about the pursuit, after it went through Moorpark and Ventura CHP areas when it reached US-101 northbound just north of the SR-33 interchange in Ventura County.  The vehicle in question was a white 2016 Toyota Tacoma.  The driver of the Toyota kept straddling traffic lanes and reached speeds up to 120 miles per hour disregarding traffic laws during the pursuit.

The Toyota eventually exited the freeway on La Cumbre Road/ Hope Ave and made a left turn towards La Cumbre Road. The driver of the Toyota made an abrupt right turn on La Cumbre Road and failed to stop for a red traffic signal, traveling through it at approximately 30 mph. The Toyota proceeded northbound on La Cumbre Road towards SR-192.  It approached a red light on the intersection of La Cumbre Road at State Street at approximately 60 mph and proceeded through that intersection failing to stop.  The Toyota then ran a stop sign at the intersection of La Cumbre Road at Pueblo Avenue still driving over 60 mph and failed to stop, running the sign.  The driver of Toyota reached SR-192 and made a left turn onto westbound SR-192 eventually reaching the intersection of Turnpike Road.  The Driver attempted to make a left turn at a high rate of speed, but turned too wide. The Toyota nearly went off the road off the south west road edge of the intersection coming to a complete stop.  CHP Officers on scene initiated a felony stop ultimately taking the solo suspect into custody.

There were no injuries to officers or the suspect during the pursuit.  The driver was evaluated at the Santa Barbara CHP Office and was not under the influence of drugs and or alcohol.

A driver was arrested after leading a high-speed pursuit through Santa Barbara early Tuesday morning.

Reports state the driver was going nearly 115 miles per hour on Highway 101 north from Ventura and arrived in Santa Barbara. The driver was in a white Toyota Tacoma truck with a Colorado license plate.

The driver exited the highway on La Cumbre and turned onto Foothill Road.

An edhat reader reported hearing the pursuit around 4:45 a.m. near Turnpike and Foothill Roads. “I heard squealing of tires and police sirens around the corner of Turnpike and the Cathedral Oaks intersection. It sounded like the driver under pursuit either crashed or stopped when the driver was ordered out of the car over the loud police intercom,” reports the edhat reader.

California Highway Patrol from Ventura has arrested one female driver related to this incident.
