Winds Expected to Pick Up on Wednesday

Winds are expected to pick up on Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, making firefighting conditions difficult.

Early Tuesday morning calm winds have made it easier for firefighters to contain the Thomas Fire. The conditions are expected to stay calm through Wednesday morning but are expected to pick up Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Fire Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity for the Santa Barbara County mountains and South Coast around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday through 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Northwest to northeast winds are expected from 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Isolated wind gusts of 60 mph are possible with the strongest wind gusts expected on Wednesday evening
