Winds are expected to pick up on Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, making firefighting conditions difficult.

Early Tuesday morning calm winds have made it easier for firefighters to contain the Thomas Fire. The conditions are expected to stay calm through Wednesday morning but are expected to pick up Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Fire Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity for the Santa Barbara County mountains and South Coast around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday through 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Clarification - The stick points in the direction the wind is coming from. 5 mph adds a half flag, like the little nubs you see on that map.

Mtndriver - The numbers in the circles are temps in degrees, and the little stick shows wind direction. Every extra 5 mph or so of wind adds a flag to the stick. That is just a random map showing calm wind with no real preferred direction, probably from yesterday.

The map you've got at the top of this article--what does it refer to? Those aren't predicted wind speeds for Wednesday evening, are they? Not consistent with the article, and pretty alarming....

I knew it was you but couldn't remember how to spell macpuzl. I'm used to common names like mine and of course the more common Tag Heuer. That said I can't find the text option in the title bar.

The name is macpuzl, as you'll see if you select text in the title bar, and shows on the comment summary. I picked bad colors for my title bar and text when I reconstituted my account, and there seems to be no way to change it.

Click on the red click here for the current weather, as the guy with his name blacked out ( what's up with that anyway ) said the map above the article is just random.
