Where’s the Fire?

By John Wiley

Flying home to SBA Friday evening, we saw at least two different layers of smoke over Montecito Peak. The layers don’t show well in this pic since it’s shot toward the settling sun, but I like the “cardboard cutout” effect of the hills. Anyway, we wondered where the fire(s) might be. Maybe a small fire nearby causing the layer from near the ground up to 3,000′ or so? Was the high layer above and beyond Broadcast Peak coming from the fires up in the Sierra? After we landed the smoke didn’t look as thick from the ground, so maybe it was all just smog blown in from LA?
