What was that noise outside?

At around 11 pm in the Goleta area, I was alarmed by a thumping noise. No, it was not a car. I went outside to hear thumping in the distance, and immediately called my mother to see if she heard from the east side of Santa Barbara and she confirmed.

Any ideas?
