  1. OK TAGDES. So someone is sitting watching a video screen observing traffic flow. Then what are they going to do with that information? Ah, I know. Compile it for future use. Nothing immediately actionable, right? Or perhaps sometimes. Like when there’s an accident that doesn’t get reported to the police. And that will occur how often around here? Ah, I know, We’ll find out from the compiled data.
This is what should be a serious community discussion: why is not (most) every traffic light controlled by traffic sensors? Why when one “breaks” does it take days or weeks to get it re-set/fixed? Why does one have to stop at a signal for 2 minutes waiting to make a left turn when there’s not a soul around for miles? As 10 cars are qued up to turn, why does the traffic light turn red when there is one car remaining, waiting to turn? Sitting at a signal idling your internal combustion engine is burning fossil fuel and dumping greenhouse gases and pollution into the air—for no reason. Not my doing. I ride a bike or drive an EV, but just saying…..

  2. They are there so the city can hire a few new people to sit and watch traffic cams all day. Then the city will hire a consultant to report on the findings of the data collected. Then the city will hire another consultant to suggest a solution to the problems. Then the city will form a committee to assess the solutions. Then the city will hire a consultant to price out the cost of implementing the chosen solutions. Then the city will award a contract to the highest bidder to implement solutions. Then the city will hire a lawyer to sue said company because said work was not performed correctly. Then the city will deprecate the cameras due to the fact they are no longer compatible with the new systems. Meanwhile the 3 people hired to watch the cams have grown into 6, with 2 managers and a budget in the millions.
    Rinse repeat…
