Carrying on a rich tradition of community outreach and support, Westerlay Orchids announces $18,353.53 raised during week-long Carp-a-Cabana fundraiser. The second-generation, family-owned business – best known for producing some of the finest flowers on the Pacific Coast – pledged a full 100% of retail shop proceeds to help support local non-profit the Carpinteria Education Foundation, Inc. (CEF). With a recent history that includes donations to local non-profits like the Cancer Research Center of Santa Barbara and Carpinteria’s own 17q12 Foundation, the team at Westerlay Orchids continues a commitment to helping build and grow essential Santa Barbara resources.

The team at Westerlay Orchids is led by second-generation flower cultivator and Owner/ President Toine Overgaag, who believes the company’s responsibility to community does not start and stop at the greenhouse door. “Along with a deep commitment to environmental sustainability, we pride ourselves on impactful community outreach,” explains Overgaag, “We would not be where we are today without a strong local network behind us. This community’s success is our success – we both grow and thrive when we work together – and CEF is doing a great deal to ensure that Santa Barbara’s next generation gets the support and resources they need to make an impact.”

During the Carp-a-Cabana fundraiser from August 30th to September 6th, Westerlay Orchids raised $18,000 toward the advancement and growth of CEF. For more than 25 years, the locally-based organization has remained dedicated to the academic success of Carpinteria and Summerland students. The non-profit partners with local schools to provide scholarship opportunities and other essential resources to the city’s youth. CEF also helps shape Santa Barbara’s future by offering students skill-building in such areas as science and technology, language arts, humanities, culinary arts, and agriculture.

“We are so fortunate to have Toine and Kandie Overgaag’s support yet again. Their contribution will have a direct impact on the lives and educational opportunities of each and every student of the Carpinteria Unified School District. Their generosity has enabled students to study arts and (STEM/STEAM) at our local elementary which would otherwise not have been available to them. CEF is honored to have their support and the children of this community are better for it,” shares Casey Balch, Carpinteria Education Foundation President.
