Assembling Chase Palm Park. Chase Palm Park did not exist a century ago. Parts of this area on the waterfront were private property. “Shore Acres” was a development in this area that consisted of rustic palm thatch cottages built in 1911.
But little by little, our city was buying the parcels in this location to clear the beach area for public access. In February 1926, the city purchased some more lots, but there was still a two-block section of waterfront lined with the palm cottages. Thanks to our city’s continued decision to make these purchases, our beachfront is today a public recreation area for all to enjoy.
