A Quiet Celebration. “It was revealed in Chinatown here today … that all of the old glamour and romance of Chinese New Years had been discarded and a purely Americanized celebration of the event this year will begin tomorrow along Cañon Perdido street between Santa Barbara and State streets.
“Saturday will be a day of rest among all the residents of the district and all work ceases.” A local leader of the Chinese residents said, “Today the youth of our race is Americanized in every sense of the word, dress, manners, education, custom and thought.” Festive tables in many of the homes of the district will be the only other sign of the celebration. – Santa Barbara Daily News, February 11, 1926
