Way Back When: Let’s Not Forget to Laugh

Although a lot of the news in the local papers was pretty grim in 1918, there was a new cartoon artist whose work began appearing here. It was a daily cartoon drawn by a man named Fontaine Fox. Fox began drawing cartoons for a Chicago newspaper back in 1908, then was syndicated and went national.

My next Way Back When book — 1918 — will be available in local bookstores in November, and at Amazon.com. This will be the fifth book in my series of the history of Santa Barbara, one year at a time.
