Way Back When: Keep that Kodak Below Decks!

Although Santa Barbara’s shoreline is very photogenic, during World War I, photo buffs were told to refrain from using their cameras to capture images of the coastline. The reason – concern about espionage. The local paper warned, “Sunday excursionists who have been in the habit of cruising about the bay … accompanied with a camera, have been warned by Uncle Sam that they will not be permitted to take photographs.”
