It’s been 20 years since our beautiful Ellwood Mesa was saved from development and permanently became open space. On Saturday, May 17th, the community gathered for a day-long celebration to honor this important milestone.
This event was incredibly meaningful from start to finish and we encourage you to see for yourself by watching this short video recap, narrated by City of Goleta’s Parks & Open Space Manager George Thomson.
George said it best at the Tribute Ceremony, “We are here today because we are part of something bigger than ourselves, something rooted in love and legacy, and the living earth beneath our feet that we know as the Ellwood Mesa… So today I ask you not just to admire this place and honor the folks who helped save it, but to answer its call. Let’s be the generation that said we will not let his be lost. Let’s be the stewards who turn love into labor, and care into legacy. So Ellwood Mesa is more than a place, it’s a promise for me and for all of us. Let’s keep that promise together as a community.”
