As reported in edhat’s recent article, a rare blood moon was scheduled to peak at 3:33 AM Tuesday morning, March 3.
Since totality was to be somewhat low in the western sky, I set up my equipment on a neighbor’s tennis court to ensure an unobstructed view—my thanks to Jacque G. Fortunately, the weather was also ideal: clear skies, minimal dew, and a light breeze.
Despite the chilly temperature, the conditions were perfect for stargazing and lunar photography.
Because the moon’s luminosity fluctuates significantly between its full phase and totality, I took many exposures using a 500mm lens. Attached is the resultant image made at 3:32 AM.
Patti Gutshall shares a view of the Blood Moon below.

I’ve seen so many delusional MAGACRATS referring to this event as the second coming. Very sad that the GOP has devolved so far into witch craft.
Fantastic photo — was it really that red when seen by the eyes or was it more like the other photo by Stargaser Ron?
Definitely more like Ron’s image.
Second photo after fix of caption, so Patti’s photo.
no, absolutely not. not even with a scope does it look like that. i watched it. had a telescope and a 20×80 set of binoculars on a trip pod. people would freak out if it looked like the photo 😉
it looks exactly like the 2nd photo
Top photo is Ron’s photo, it say Patti under it but wrong. The bottom photo is Patti’s, it says Ron’s. Just a mix up. No it did not look like the top one to me. But it looks really cool.
