The problem may be succinctly summed up as too many people with this attitude:
"I'm a pretty aggressive and confident driver. I learned to drive on a high end sports car and my idea of fun would be a day at the Porsche Experience. "
Overestimation of ability.

I should have said defensive. I was caffeinating at the time. In my younger years, I would say I was more aggressive (while also being defensive). I also think there is a huge difference between the control of a guy driving a Porsche than a guy in a Camry. If I have to be around one driving driving maniacally and I get to choose the vehicle they're in, there is no question I am going to vote for them to be driving a sports car that is engineered for tight turns and bold moves. When it comes to my contemporary aggression, what I meant was for example passing people who insist on going 65 in the slow lane. I WILL pass you on the right.

Be careful out there folks. There is only a .0001 inch “safety” margin between the lane line and the concrete K-Rail. Seems like an accident nearly every day with multiple fatalities going on year 7 this of this Carp. construction zone.

Well the cause of this accident was yet another drunk loser, surprise, surprise, but...

I agree - this area has become extremely harrowing and so many are going 75+ despite zero margins. I'm a pretty aggressive and confident driver. I learned to drive on a high end sports car and my idea of fun would be a day at the Porsche Experience. And yet I am horrified by how people drive and how reckless and needlessly aggressive they are. Tailgating is the norm - people drive 5' behind the car in front of them even at high speeds. Endless (and pointless) lane changes. No signaling. Everyone on their phones and constantly veering into the lane next to them. I feel like I've survived some kind of death trap every time I make it through this stretch even at a non-busy hour. I've been commuting to LA often and I used to feel like it was smooth sailing until you hit the Valley where the lanes narrow but multiply, and the psychopathy of the average drivers shoots to a new high on the @sshole index, but now I basically feel like that from the time I hit the 101 in SB. I know I'm beating a dead horse here and I can't stop making these comments, but something has seriously shifted in the psyche of drivers, or out population has changed, or both. Because every time I get in the car now I feel like I have survived 3 near-crashes, usually from distracted drivers drifting in lanes, from an aggro youth with a beat up car (like the guy who almost smashed right into an old lady in an intersection I commented about the other day), or from some toxic crazy person driving like they're out to kill everyone in their path. I don't know what's going on with people, but it scares me. There is a detachment from the value of life, and a selfishness in it, and a rage seething that truly rattles me and makes me fear for civil society.

...and a very sudden onramp for construction vehicles just south of the overpass. Slow moving trucks entering the highway with a very short distance before being in the number 2 lane. K rail on the inside of the number 1 lane with no shoulder. That whole stretch leaves absolutely no room for error. A second's distraction--check the phone, answer the phone, text, etc.--and a driver can hit a K rail on either side and bounce back across both lanes, taking out whatever traffic's in their path.

How is there always an accident there now? You’re only supposed to be driving 55 it’s very narrow now. But every since the construction there , there’s always an accident in that area’
You have to get on the on ramp at the Summerland exit going East fast you don’t have to much to enter on the fwy, timing is everything. Can’t wait till this is done!
But these jobs get drawn out, I usually only see 2 guys working, I guess they have a job for a while and why not finish one area before starting at a new area.

Thanks Tagdes, you're 100% right and I wish all of those who complain about road work "taking forever because nobody is working" or "why did they choose to do the roadwork now, it's inconvenient" could read your comment.

Crystal and Maui, your whining about every construction sight is getting old. FACT...they are not drawn out. They are engineered quit well as to how many working days are needed for the phases. If the contractor is late for anything other than weather or change orders they pay us ( State in this case ) back.
