Suspect: Adult Male, 23, Thousand Oaks
On 07-01-2025, at approximately 8:00 PM deputies from the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded to the 500 block of Racquet Club Lane reference a subject experiencing a mental health issue while in possession of a firearm.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a family member outside of the residence and were advised the subject was threatening family members and in possession of a firearm. During the course of the contact with the family member, the subject appeared on the balcony of the residence, discharged a round and an officer involved shooting occurred.
Deputies attempted life saving measures; however, the subject was declared deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed control of the investigation.
As the investigation is active and on-going, more information will be provided at a later time.

How did this individual possess a firearm? At risk of being pilloried, it’s the family members’ fault likely for not either red-flagging the ownership by a mentally unstable person or negligently making one available. I suppose it could’ve been an unknown possession. Tragic all the way around.
Very sad story. 23 years old. RIP, glad nobody else was harmed physically.
