On October 12, 2025, at 1645 hours, Ventura Police Officers responded to the area of Surfer’s Point for a report of a man brandishing a firearm during a confrontation.
The reporting party told officers that he was walking his dog along the promenade when another dog, later determined to belong to the suspect, approached. The suspect, identified as William Evans, became upset after the reporting party reminded him that his dog should be on a leash. During the argument, Evans reportedly lifted his shirt and brandished a handgun that was holstered on his waistband.
Officers arrived quickly and located Evans nearby. He was found to be in possession of a loaded, concealed handgun.
Evans was arrested for brandishing a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm not registered to him, and was booked at the Ventura County Jail.

The headline is misleading. It was the suspect who had his dog off leash, not the reporting party.
Don’t tell me–the dog was a pit bull mix?
RHS – what on earth does the breed of dog have to do with this? Sounds like a veiled (and anonymous) attempt at stereotyping. Typical from you.
Hope the dog will be okay.
