A severe vehicle rollover occurred on Highway 101 southbound at the Santa Rosa Road south off-ramp near Buellton, leading to major injuries for a solo driver.
The incident, which unfolded at around 6:19 p.m. on Wednesday, prompted a swift response from emergency services, including the arrival of the CSTAR7 helicopter for medical evacuation.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the vehicle, driven by an adult male, lost control and rolled off the highway, eventually coming to a rest in an adjacent field. The circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle are still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Fire department personnel were required to extricate the injured man from the wreckage due to the severe nature of the crash. Once freed, the victim, who sustained major injuries, was quickly transported by the CSTAR7 helicopter to Marian Regional Medical Center for urgent care.
The accident led to temporary disruptions in the vicinity as emergency crews worked at the scene to secure the area and facilitate the rescue operation.
The identity of the driver has not been released.
Authorities continue to remind drivers to adhere to speed limits and road regulations.
