CHP: UNK EXTENT OF INJURIES
One person was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when a vehicle plunged over the side of Highway 150 in Carpinteria.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at about 3:35 p.m. to the single-vehicle crash near Rincon Hill Road, according to Battalion Chief Brian Roberson of the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District.
The vehicle — a gray minivan — ended up about 150 feet off the roadway, down a steep embankment, Roberson told Noozhawk.
The male driver and sole occupant suffered moderate to major injuries in the crash, he added.
Firefighters rigged up a rope system and used a backboard and a Stokes basket to bring the man up to the roadway and a waiting AMR ambulance.
The victim was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His name and details on his condition were not available.
Highway 150 was shut down in both directions for about 45 minutes while the rescue operation was underway.
The crash was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
