Vehicle Injures Bicyclist in Collision

On October 21, 2017 at about 1703 hours, Officers responded to a traffic collision near the intersection of Broadway and Williams. Upon arrival, Officers found an elderly male on the roadway unconscious. According to witnesses, the elderly male was riding his bicycle eastbound on Williams and was struck by a car traveling southbound on Broadway. The vehicle left the area southbound without stopping. The Santa Maria Police along with the assistance of a witness were able to locate the vehicle a short time later in a nearby neighborhood, however, the driver had fled on foot.

At about 2330 hours, the Santa Maria Police Department received information the driver had returned home. Officers contacted the driver, Maria Agustina Apolonioangel, 42 of Santa Maria. Apolonioangel was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on Felony hit and run.

At the time this news release was written, the bicyclist was being treated for his injuries at a local hospital and his exact condition was unknown.
