A vehicle crashed off Las Positas Road early Friday morning. The driver stated they swerved to avoid something in the roadway.

The incident took place after 7:00 a.m. near the intersection of Las Positas Road and Las Positas Place in Santa Barbara.

The vehicle was traveling northbound on Las Positas when the driver swerved to avoid something in the roadway.

One reader stated it was a possible mountain lion, however, numerous other edhat readers reported it was not an animal but a cyclist in the roadway that caused the driver to swerve.

  1. It would appear that the vehicle was travelling around 50 MPH judging from the trajectory and location of the vehicle. Possibly they were going a bit faster, but at least 50 MPH. Must have been a really wild ride for the driver (prayers for the driver). I’m amazed that cyclists, even the “pro” multi-color spandex “outfitted” riders, chose to ride along the State highway versus a much/much/MUCH safer bike path.
