I did not catch the original call I was indisposed I turned on the scanner happened to catch it and post it before anyone else did though I wasn't live on scene.
We drove by there about an hour ago. The incident occurred at Carlito's, which is the Tex-Mex restaurant across from the Arlington Theater (the block up from the Granada Theater). There was a truck with the front end highly damaged from knocking over a light post (one of those ornate heavy-duty light posts), and then it looked like it crossed over the Carlito's driveway on State St., and continued up along the sidewalk knocking over and destroying some planters. I did not see the driver, so I could not determine if the driver was drunk, high, or was simply distracted (texting, dare I say?). About a year ago we were on the patio at Carlito's and I said to the person I was with, "I hope a car never comes smashing through here!" Who would have guessed that it actually happened, although it was a truck....not a car. Don't think I'll be going to Carlito's any time soon!! I think Carlito's used to be a Foster's Freeze "back in the day."
I was on my bike right after. One of the store owners told me she thought the man had a seizure. The only person seriously hurt was the driver and he was not seriously hurt from the accident, it was his condition, seizure, heart attack, or perhaps drunk or distracted. But the folks who where right there, right after, said it was a medical issue. Yep, he knocked down a light post, hit some planters but, it didn't look like his truck was totalled. It was pretty damaged though!
