A vehicle crashed 100 feet over the side of Highway 154, seriously injuring the driver on Thursday, December 4.
At 4:09 p.m., emergency responders arrived approximately one mile west of the San Marcos Golf Course including Santa Barbara County Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire, Los Padres National Forest Fire, California Highway Patrol, and CalStar Air Support.
Crews discovered a vehicle had crashed 100 feet over the side of the highway and landed in a riverbed.
The single occupant, a male, was trapped underneath the vehicle. Firefighters performed vehicle stabilization, used lift bags to raise the vehicle, and utilized a rope system to bring the patient and rescuers topside, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The patient sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by a Calstar helicopter.
Highway 154 was closed in both directions for a period of time. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
