A vehicle struck a power pole in Lompoc causing a widespread power outage in the Mission Hills area.

At 2:57 p.m. on Saturday, Santa Barbara County firefighters responded with Lompoc City firefighters and an ambulance to a vehicle accident at Rucker Road and Calle Tercera. Crews found an SUV had struck a high voltage power pole and it was hanging over two homes in the 3300 block of Rucker Rd, said Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.

The damage to the high voltage power pole extended to damage other transformers down the road, causing multiple explosions. There were no reported fires from those explosions.

As of Saturday afternoon, all of Mission Hills and parts of Vandenberg Village were without power. The 3300 block of Rucker Road will be closed for 24 hours due to pole repairs and the residents of 3362 and 3368 Rucker Rd will be displaced for the next 24 hours, said Zaniboni.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
