Vacant Buildings Split for Multiple Businesses

Splitting vacant buildings into multiple businesses in Santa Barbara may be a new economic stimulus.

Two have opened, Shaker Mill and Cubaneo, and more are in construction at 418 State Street.

They  include Gear clothing and gifts and Modern Times beer. Owners say this is a way to reduce rent and give smaller operators  a better chance to grow their business.
