A Calstar helicopter landed on Highway 1 near Lompoc for a vehicle collision that injured two people resulting in the death of an unborn baby on Tuesday evening.
At 5:43 p.m., Santa Barbara County Firefighters, Lompoc Firefighters, California Highway Patrol, and AMR ground ambulance responded to the intersection of Highway 1 and Santa Lucia Canyon Road in the Vandenberg Village area.
A reported two-vehicle collision caused major injuries to the drivers of each vehicle.
On Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) provided an update stating the driver of a 2021 Lexus was traveling southbound on SR-1, in the fast lane, approaching Santa Lucia Canyon Rd.
The driver of a 2018 Honda CR-V was traveling northbound on SR-1 and slowed to make a left turn onto Santa Lucia Canyon Rd. The Honda turned left through the southbound lanes, in front of the approaching Lexus.
The Lexus struck the right side of the Honda, resulting in major injuries to both drivers. The driver of the Honda, who was pregnant, was flown to Marian Regional Medical Hospital where, tragically, the unborn baby was pronounced deceased due to injuries from the crash, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Lexus was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center by a ground ambulance. Their condition is currently unknown.

This is very sad news to hear. Hope the mama is ok, and the Lexus driver as well.
I drive thru there occasionally and am amazed how lame the crossroads are at Santa Lucia.
Cal Trans should be ashamed since there has been a string of deaths and many more no fatality accidents if you look into it.
Formerly known as Pine Canyon, and is the only Semi Truck inspection entrance to the north base since after 9/11
Chicanes at the other entry points is meant to stream all truck traffic thru S.L.gate for the north base.
A nice over/under pass cloverleaf would be easy since it is all State or Fed land.
