Does anyone have an update on the girl who was struck by horse and then hospitalized during Old Spanish Days Fiesta Historical Parade?

According to KEYT the girl was watching the parade with her family on the curb near Anapamu and State Streets when a horse struck her with its hoof. Paramedics were on scene and she was transported to Cottage Hospital as a precaution.

So I see that you put a poster's comments that stated that 1) Hope the girl is Ok, and 2) mom and daughter should not sit on the curb with horses so close, and 3) the red vested volunteers were doing nothing. Why? It is all true.

I was there, and this happened directly across the street from me. This wasn't a problem of kids sitting on the curb, although they were sitting there. The horse was more of a dancing prancing type (i'm sure their is a proper name) and got backup in parade traffic that stopped suddenly in front of them. As the horse did a sideways turn, it put his back hoof on top of the curb/sidewalk areas into the crowd, and broke its balance, almost falling and riding into the crowd. Momentary chaos ensued then the rider yanked on the reigns and pulled the horse back out to the street and got balance.. only to leave the mother screaming in horror as the horse trotted away.. the girl was on the sidewalk (paved parkway area where they have their viewing section) Most people did not witness the event, unless you were looking right at it, like I was.. in fact nobody came to help her right away, because they didn't see it.

From the Parade Announcer's Script... "If you are sitting on the curb, please keep your feet in when there are horses present. It will really, really hurt if a horse steps on your foot, and it has happened in the past. " According to a number of the parade announcers, the red-vested volunteers don't do much except stand and watch the parade.

Update on Fiesta Parade Injury?

Do you know horses? They are prey animals and can move, change direction, and cover a lot of distance in a flash. Way to assume bad parenting. Also, I believe it was the child's arm, not leg. She's four.

Thanks for your concern -- while it was quite a fright, the individuals injuries did not appear to be life-threatening

That's good! Everything I've seen says it was just a trip to the ER to be on the safe side.
