Union Bank Robbery Suspect

At approximately 1:50 p.m. today, May 24, 2017, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a bank robbery at Union Bank located in the 5400 block of Carpinteria Avenue in the City of Carpinteria. According to witness statements and video surveillance, a suspect handed a teller a note demanding money and walked out the front door after he was given an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen headed northbound on foot. At no time was there a weapon reported or observed during the incident.

Sheriff’s deputies searched the area but were not able to locate the suspect. A Santa Barbara County Sheriff/Fire Air Support Unit helicopter and a Sheriff’s K-9 team responded to help search for the suspect. The suspect is described as a heavyset Caucasian male, in his late fifties, approximately 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, sunglasses and a black Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap with dark grey writing.

Sheriff’s deputies suspect this is likely the same suspect who robbed the Montecito Bank and Trust located across the street last month on April 27, 2017.

The Sheriff’s Office is releasing surveillance photos from the bank robbery and is asking anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity, whereabouts, or any other information that would assist investigators, to contact the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at 805-681-4150 or to leave an anonymous tip call 805-681-4171.
