UCSB Police Search for Robbery and Sexual Assault Suspect in Isla Vista

UC Santa Barbara police officers are searching for a male suspect accused of robbery and sexual assault in Isla Vista on Saturday, December 6.

At 7:03 p.m., UC police issued timely alerts campus-wide stating there is a crime in progress. Officers were responding to a report of a robbery and attempted sexual assault south of West Campus Point Lane near the “Red Barn” and horse stables.

Residents were advised to avoid the area until further notice.

In an update, UC police stated the suspect was described as a Hispanic adult male between 20 and 25 years old with short hair, around 5’7″ or 5’8″, wearing dark clothing with a white bandana over his face. 

The suspect allegedly struck the victim in the head with a metal water bottle before running away, southbound toward Isla Vista. 

At 10:41 p.m., UC police lifted the request to avoid the area and stated the suspect is not in custody and police continue to patrol the West Campus Point Lane area.

  1. There is far too much crime that occurs between UCSB to Ellwood Beach within the narrow strip along the coastline. The UCSB lagoon has been a hotbed of SA and regular assaults (I believe there were at least five such events in 2025 alone). Isla Vista, well…what can one say other than it has been a dangerous community for far too long. The woods in/around the Ellwood area are filled with who knows who. LE needs to step up patrols and/or increase staffing to deal with the exponential growth of crime. Criminals believe they can get away with whatever they want to do because of the “snitches get stitches” attitude prevalent amongst IV residents and students. The time to stop crime is now…not tomorrow!
